Heather Spinney is a Senior Research Scientist in Core Research & Development at Dow in Midland, MI. Her research activities involve the design and synthesis of new ligands for transition metal catalysts, catalyst screening experiments, and mechanistic studies of reactions of interest. Her work has contributed to programs with various Dow businesses, including Hydrocarbons, Home & Personal Care, Oxygenated Solvents, Polyurethanes, and Plastics & Specialty Packaging.
Prior to joining Dow in 2010, Heather earned a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS, Canada and completed two postdoctoral fellowship positions at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Ottawa, Canada. She obtained her B.Sc. in Chemistry from Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB, Canada. Heather is the recipient of a 2021 ACS WCC Rising Star Award and a 2019 Emerging Leader Award from the Society of Women Engineers.
