Introduction Levothyroxine (T4) is vital hormone that is secreted in the body by thyroid gland to manage the metabolism process and many other vital body processes. it is taken by patients with hypothyroidism. It was proved that some drugs affect the levothyroxine drug action in body, eg; Drugs contain some metals (Iron , Calcium , Aluminum ) , some antibiotics and other drugs also. The effect of these drugs still not known if it is direct chemical reaction with the Levothyroxine drug or they just affect its absorption by body.
Materials-methods Chemical interaction between Levothyroxine and buffered solution of each of Ciprofloxacin, Sodium alendronate drugs and (Ca²⁺, Fe³⁺ , Al³⁺) metal compounds were studied using UV-absorbance spectroscopy.
Results The UV spectra of Levothyroxine showed variation with the continuous additions of studied drugs and metal ions
Conclusion All studied drugs and metal compounds showed kind of chemical reaction even at very low concentrations (10^-7-10^-5 M) with Levothyroxine drug
