Dr. Dylan M Barber

Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Harvard

Dylan completed a B.A. in chemistry from Williams College in 2015 while developing a library of amphiphilic block copolymers in Sarah Goh's research group. He then completed a Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst under the mentorship of Professors Todd Emrick and Alfred J. Crosby. During his Ph.D., he focused on fundamental challenges in monomer and polymer synthesis and the mechanics of flexible, mesoscale filaments, culminating in several findings relating to "mesoscale polymers," flexible filaments of nano-to-microscale cross-section that translate key features of linear polymers to the "meso" length scale. He defended his Ph.D. in September 2021 and has since been advancing several projects as a postdoctoral researcher under the mentorship of Jennifer Lewis at Harvard University, including 3D-printed designs for optimally efficient redox flow battery electrodes and novel polymers for next-generation soft robotics.
