Dr Derek McPhee

Derek McPhee is a Senior Technical Director within the Center for Product Innovation at Amyris Inc., where he was previously the Sr. Director of Chemistry and Senior Director of Technology Strategy. He has an undergraduate degree in Applied Chemistry from the Universidad de Málaga (Spain) and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Calgary (Canada). After a NSERC post-doctoral fellowship at the Canadian National Research Council, the remainder of his career has been in industry, first in the crop protection, specialty and rubber chemicals divisions of Uniroyal Chemical (now Lanxess), then in the generic pharmaceutical industry at Brantford Chemicals (now Apotex Pharmachem), and as Director of Chemistry/VP of AstaTech Canada. He is the sole author/co-author of over 100 patents and 20 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals, 3 book chapters, and numerous conference presentations
