The march-of-the-machines is happening at pace in the chemical sciences. Both industry and academia are embracing these electronic colleagues by creating more elaborate and elegant processes and workflows. From automating a manual process such as catalyst weighing or liquid handling, to fully automated end-to-end process for library synthesis, there is a plethora of applications where robotics has been the lynchpin. As a result of this, more efficient and better parallelized procedures have been realized and are accelerating reaction optimization, analogue synthesis and ultimately drug discovery. This symposium aims to bring world leaders in automated synthesis from both academic and industry to showcase how theyve applied automation to accelerate their synthesis and exchange ideas on how best to adapt or improve. The emphasis is how automation can complement workflows, provide inspiration through efficiency and density, and be a highly impactful tool for chemists when employed tactically in both academia in industry.
