Danushka was born in Kandy, Sri Lanka, and received his bachelor's degree in Chemistry in 2011 from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He moved to the USA in 2013 and pursued his graduate studies under the guidance of Prof. Claudio Verani at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, where he worked on developing molecular catalysts for water splitting. Danushka earned his doctorate in Inorganic Chemistry in 2019 and joined the Fiedler lab at Marquette University as a postdoctoral fellow. His research focuses on developing structural and functional mimics for sulfoxide synthase enzyme active sites.
