Dan Schmehl is a Principal Scientist and pollinator specialist at Bayer CropScience, based in Chesterfield, Missouri, USA. He has a BS degree in Biology from Messiah College (2007) and a PhD in Entomology from Penn State University (2013) with a specialization in Apiculture. After graduate school, Dan joined the laboratory of Dr. Jamie Ellis at the University of Florida where he specialized in pesticide studies and Varroa management. He joined Bayer in 2015 with primary responsibilities for pesticide safety evaluations and support of Bayer bee health research initiatives. Dan supports these core responsibilities by developing and designing new methodologies and conducting toxicology studies to support the registration of compounds. He also works with his business to identify environmentally sustainable use rates and patterns, application timing, and risk mitigation strategies for Bayer's crop protection portfolio.
