Dr. Kuespert is the Director of Core Facilities & Safety for the engineering school at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD (USA). He is an engineering faculty member focused on further developing the culture of safety at the institution and on developing the school's portfolio of shared facilities. He received a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Johns Hopkins in 1994, later joining W.R. Grace & Co. as a research engineer developing technology for thedestruction of asbestos-containing construction materials. He served as Technical Director of the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration, worked as a process safety consultant for several firms, and joined Johns Hopkins in 2011. He is currently Immediate Past Chair for the ACS Division of Chemical Health & Safety, and a Member of the ACS Committee on Chemical Safety. He also helped write the new ACS Foundations of Chemical Safety and Risk Management e-course, and he wrote the textbook Research Laboratory Safety in 2015.
