Dr. Kaplan joined the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) in 1998, where his research program has studied wetland environmental science, water quality, carbon cycling, and natural attenuation of contaminants. More recently, his research program has been focused on the role of hydrological forcing on organic matter composition, redox and biogeochemistry in engineered and natural environments, nuclear waste disposal, and the development of economical, low-ecological-impact technologies for environmental remediation. Before joining SRNL, he led a team at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory conducting laboratory and modeling research related to radiochemistry, environmental remediation, risk assessment calculations, and waste form testing. He is an adjunct professor at four universities and has been an associate editor for four journals.
