Dr. Piñero Cruz is a former student of the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras campus. She undertook three postdoctoral positions in Bordeaux and Rennes, France. Her appointment as an assistant professor of the Chemistry Department at the UPR-RP began on 2014 where she started a research laboratory group on Coordination Chemistry. Since then, she has been the PI of the NSF-MRI: Acquisition of a Single Crystal X-ray Diffraction Instrument for the Creation of an X-ray Diffraction Facility at the University of Puerto Rico, and current director of the Single Crystal X-ray Diffraction Facilities at the Molecular Sciences Research Center. She is currently an associate professor, and one of the lead scientists of the Sensors for Environmental Monitoring Group of the NSF CREST-Center for Innovation, Research, and Education in Environmental Nanotechnology (CIRE2N) Program.
