Dr. Lee began her research career at Saehan Media in Korea in Organic Chemicals and Polymers. Later she moved to the USA for graduate study. She obtained her Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry with Professor Robert Hanson at Northeastern University in 2000. Then, she moved to Harvard Medical School as an NIH postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Professor John Neumeyer. She began her independent career at Central Michigan University in 2004, where she is now a full professor.
