Buyan is a PhD student in Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania. She is jointly advised by Professors James Petersson and Elizabeth Rhoades. Her PhD research focuses on the elucidating the effects of post-translational modifications (PTMs) on the function and behavior of alpha-synuclein, a synaptic protein implicated in vesicle trafficking and Parkinson's disease. Prior to her graduate studies, Buyan majored in Chemistry at Princeton University and carried out her senior thesis in the lab of Prof. Tom Muir studying histone PTMs.
