Ashlyn M. Koval received a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.S.Ed. in Secondary Education, Chemistry from California University of Pennsylvania (CalU) in 2014. While at CalU Ashlyn participated in synthetic organic research under the guidance of Dr. Matthew Price, synthesizing and characterizing spiropyran derivatives. Ashlyn went on to receive a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Duquesne University under the guidance of Dr. Ralph A. Wheeler. Her work focused on utilizing density functional theory and the extended broken symmetry approximation to characterize biologically relevant 2Fe-2S clusters. Ashlyn joined the ERDC team in summer 2019 and is currently a contractor with Simetri Inc.
