Dr. Andrew Lee Bowman

Research Mechanical Engineer, U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center

Dr. Andrew L. Bowman is a Research Mechanical Engineer in the Structural Mechanics Branch (SMB) within the Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (GSL) of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC). Dr. Bowman received his B.S. degrees in Biological Sciences (2010) and Mechanical Engineering (2014) from Mississippi State University.  He earned his Ph.D. in 2019 from Mississippi State University in Mechanical Engineering.  In 2016 he was awarded the Department of Defense (DoD) Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship and began his federal career at ERDC in 2019.

Dr. Bowman's research interest includes Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME), multiscale damage and fracture modeling of polymers, and weapons effects simulations (WES). He currently conducts nanoscale simulations to study the molecular behavior of polymers under dynamic loading conditions, such as ballistic impacts. He has demonstrated research expertise in the area of simulation and modeling and has authored several publications including research articles, book chapters, and conference papers.
