Anaira graduated from the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez in 2020, obtaining a B.S in Chemical Engineering. She conducted research in the transport and destination of contaminants in groundwater karst systems with Dr. Ingrid Padilla, and synthesis of metal organic frameworks for wastewater treatment with Dr. Hernández-Maldonado. During her undergraduate degree, she was part of the NSF REU programs at the University of South Carolina, investigating graphene oxide membranes for water treatment, and at the University of Florida developing predictive wind-speed up machine learning algorithms with Dr. Forrest Masters. Her research interests are developing effective electrochemical systems for water decontamination and resource recovery from wastewater.
