Alshaima'a (Shaima) is a Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical Sciences at UNTHSC. She joined Emmitte's research group as a graduate student researcher in the Pharmaceutical Sciences department at UNT System College of Pharmacy. Her doctoral dissertation aims to discover novel mouse-specific in vivo tool compounds that function as selective inhibitors for Slack channels, to help validate Slack inhibition as a viable therapy for malignant migrating partial seizure of infancy (MMPSI). Prior to joining UNTHSC, she worked as a research and teaching assistant at the German Jordanian University. Shaima holds a Pharm.D. degree from the University of Jordan
