Dr. Alicia Boto is Scientific Researcher at the Spanish Research Council at the Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology. Formerly she served as Deputy Director of the IPNA-CSIC for eight years and Coordinator of Scientific Outreach for twelve years.
She works in the development of synthetic methodologies for the the selective modification of peptides, in order to obtain antimicrobial and antitumor compounds, and the development of fluorescent drug-probe complexes, which have resulted in the commercial probe FLTX and derivatives with laser emission activity for phototherapy. She has been part of the scientific committees that wrote the 2020 CSIC Report for the Area 'Challenges in Biomedicine and Health'.
She has published 79 articles in international journals, and filed seven patents with international extensions, of which 70% have been licensed. She currently participates in the creation of a biotechnological spin-off.
